Workshop on “Smart Automation: How AI is Transforming Mechatronics and Mechanical Engineering”

The Department of Mechatronics Engineering, in association with Paavai Mechatronics Engineers, Paavai Engineering College, organized a workshop on the topic “Smart Automation: How AI is Transforming Mechatronics and Mechanical Engineering” on 10.04.2026. The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Ms. G. Nishanthini, III Year B.E. Mechatronics. The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr. M. Premkumar, Principal, Paavai Engineering College, who emphasized the importance of transforming project works into potential Start-up ventures in the future. Mr. S. K. Kiran, III Year B.E. Mechatronics Engineering, introduced the chief guest Dr.Thirunavukkarasu Kannapiran, Technical Project Manager, S2integrators LLC, USA.

The workshop session was conducted by Dr. Thirunavukkarasu Kannapiran, who elaborated on how artificial intelligence is revolutionizing modern engineering by enabling machines to perform tasks with enhanced precision, efficiency, and adaptability. He highlighted the integration of AI with mechatronic systems such as robotics, sensors, and control systems to develop intelligent machines capable of real-time decision-making and predictive maintenance.

The session also covered key applications including autonomous robots, smart manufacturing, digital twins, and Industry 4.0 technologies, demonstrating how conventional mechanical systems are evolving into smart and connected solutions. Participants gained valuable insights into how AI improves design, optimization, and productivity while reducing human effort, errors, and operational costs, thereby preparing them for future advancements in engineering industries.

The session concluded with an engaging interactive discussion, which inspired and motivated students to build a strong foundation in applying AI concepts to practical engineering projects. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Mr. Kathiravan, III Year B.E. Mechatronics Engineering.
