Department of Radiography & Imaging Technology
The department prepares students to become skilled healthcare professionals capable of performing diagnostic imaging procedures that play a vital role in the accurate diagnosis and management of diseases.
The department is committed to developing competent radiography professionals with a strong foundation in imaging sciences, patient care, radiation safety, and ethical practice. The curriculum combines theoretical instruction with practical laboratory sessions, simulation-based learning, and extensive clinical training to ensure students acquire the technical expertise required in modern diagnostic imaging.
Students receive hands-on training in conventional radiography (X-ray), computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasonography, mammography, fluoroscopy, digital imaging systems, and radiation protection techniques. They are also trained in patient positioning, image acquisition, quality assurance, equipment maintenance, contrast procedures, and emergency patient care. The department emphasizes patient safety, radiation protection, evidence-based practice, and effective communication to prepare students for professional practice in diverse healthcare settings.
Under the guidance of experienced faculty members and clinical experts, students develop technical proficiency, clinical competence, ethical values, leadership qualities, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Objectives of the Department
The Department of Radiography and Imaging Technology aims to:
- Develop comprehensive knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, radiographic physics, imaging techniques, and radiation sciences.
- Equip students with technical skills in conventional radiography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasonography, fluoroscopy, mammography, and digital imaging systems.
- Enhance clinical competency in performing diagnostic imaging procedures while ensuring patient safety, radiation protection, and image quality.
- Promote evidence-based practice, critical thinking, clinical decision-making, and quality assurance in diagnostic imaging services.
- Foster professional ethics, effective communication, teamwork, leadership, and compassionate patient-centered care in multidisciplinary healthcare environments.
Departmental Activities
- The department observes important health awareness days such as World Radiography Day, World Cancer Day, World Health Day, International Day of Medical Physics, and National Radiation Safety Awareness Programmes by organizing awareness campaigns, seminars, exhibitions, and community outreach activities to promote safe imaging practices and preventive healthcare.
- Regular guest lectures, Continuing Education Programmes (CNE), workshops, and seminars are conducted to update students and faculty on recent advancements in radiographic imaging, digital radiology, CT, MRI, ultrasonography, artificial intelligence in medical imaging, and radiation safety.
- Students undergo comprehensive clinical training in affiliated multispecialty hospitals, diagnostic imaging centers, radiology departments, CT and MRI suites, fluoroscopy units, mammography centers, and emergency departments to gain practical exposure to advanced imaging technologies.
- Hands-on workshops on radiation protection, image interpretation, quality assurance, patient positioning, contrast media administration, Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and emergency patient management are conducted regularly to strengthen students' technical and clinical skills.
- The department encourages students to participate in scientific conferences, research projects, paper presentations, and poster competitions, imaging workshops, and continuing professional development programmes to enhance academic excellence, research aptitude, and professional competence.
