Department of Cardio Pulmonary Perfusion Care Technology
The Department of Cardio Pulmonary Perfusion Care Technology is a specialized department dedicated to providing quality education and advanced clinical training in cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary perfusion sciences.
The department prepares students to become highly skilled perfusion technologists who play a critical role in cardiac surgeries and the management of patients requiring extracorporeal circulation and advanced life-support systems.
The department is committed to developing competent healthcare professionals with strong theoretical knowledge, technical expertise, and ethical values. The curriculum integrates classroom teaching, laboratory training, simulation-based learning, and extensive clinical exposure to ensure students acquire the knowledge and practical skills required in modern cardiac care.
Students receive hands-on training in the operation and management of the Heart-Lung Machine (Cardiopulmonary Bypass Machine), Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), cell saver systems, autotransfusion techniques, hemodynamic monitoring, blood conservation methods, and perfusion management during open-heart surgeries. They also gain practical experience in cardiac catheterization laboratories, intensive cardiac care units (ICCU), operation theatres, and emergency cardiac care settings. The department emphasizes patient safety, evidence-based practice, precision, teamwork, and effective communication to prepare students for highly specialized clinical environments.
Under the guidance of experienced faculty members and clinical experts, students develop technical competence, clinical expertise, leadership qualities, professional ethics, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Objectives of the Department
The Department of Cardio Pulmonary Perfusion Care Technology aims to
- Develop comprehensive knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, pathology, perfusion sciences, and extracorporeal circulation techniques.
- Equip students with technical skills in operating and managing heart-lung machines, ECMO, intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), cell saver systems, and other advanced perfusion equipment.
- Enhance students' clinical competency in assisting cardiac surgeons and anesthesiologists during open-heart surgeries and other cardiovascular procedures.
- Promote evidence-based practice, critical thinking, clinical decision-making, and patient safety in cardiopulmonary perfusion care.
- Foster professional ethics, effective communication, teamwork, leadership, and compassionate patient-centered care in multidisciplinary healthcare environments.
Departmental Activities
- The department observes important health awareness days such as World Heart Day, World Health Day, World Hypertension Day, World Blood Donor Day, and National Organ Donation Day by organizing awareness programmes, health education campaigns, seminars, exhibitions, and community outreach activities to promote cardiovascular health and organ donation awareness.
- Regular guest lectures, Continuing Education Programmes (CNE), workshops, and scientific seminars are conducted to update students and faculty on recent advancements in cardiopulmonary bypass technology, ECMO, cardiac surgery, perfusion techniques, patient monitoring, and evidence-based clinical practices.
- Students undergo comprehensive clinical training in affiliated multispecialty hospitals, cardiac operation theatres, cardiothoracic surgery units, cardiac catheterization laboratories (Cath Labs), intensive cardiac care units (ICCU), and perfusion departments to gain extensive practical exposure to advanced cardiovascular procedures.
- Hands-on workshops on Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), extracorporeal circulation techniques, ECMO management, perfusion equipment handling, patient monitoring, and emergency cardiac care are conducted regularly to strengthen students' technical and clinical competencies.
- The department encourages students to participate in scientific conferences, research projects, paper presentations, poster competitions, perfusion workshops, and continuing professional development programmes to enhance academic excellence, research aptitude, and innovation in cardiovascular healthcare.
