The Department of Cybersecurity organised a Guest Lecture on the topic “Careers in Cyber Security; From Student to Security Professional” on 13.02.2026 at Kalam’s Chamber.
The guest lecture on “Careers in Cybersecurity: From Student to Security Professional” organised by the Department of Cybersecurity at Paavai Engineering College began with a prayer song rendered by Keerthi and Birundha. The prayer created a peaceful and positive atmosphere, invoking blessings for the program’s success and setting a respectful tone for the session.
The welcome address was delivered by P. Jeyasri, who warmly greeted the chief guest, faculty members, and students. In her speech, she highlighted the growing importance of Cyber Security in today’s digital era and emphasised the need for students to equip themselves with the right technical and professional skills. She also introduced the guest speaker and encouraged the participants to make the best use of the opportunity by actively engaging in the session.
The Presidential Address was delivered by Mr. SenthilKumar, Placement Director. He spoke about the increasing demand for cybersecurity professionals across various industries and stressed the importance of career planning, skill development, and industry readiness. He motivated students to focus on practical learning, internships, certifications, and continuous skill enhancement to improve their employability and placement opportunities in the cybersecurity domain.
The keynote address was presented by Mr. Krishna Kumar, Co-Founder of Cyber Security NERDS LAB, Coimbatore. He provided valuable insights into the journey from being a student to becoming a security professional. He explained various career roles such as Ethical Hacker, Security Analyst, SOC Analyst, and Penetration Tester. He discussed the essential technical.
skills required, including networking fundamentals, operating systems knowledge, programming basics, and familiarity with cybersecurity tools. He also emphasised the importance of globally recognised certifications, hands-on practice, internships, and participation in cybersecurity competitions. Through real-world examples and industry experiences, he guided students on how to build a strong career path in the cybersecurity field.
The session highlights included an overview of the rapid growth of the cybersecurity industry, discussion of real-time cyber threats, career road map guidance, and an interactive question- and-answer session.
