Department of Cardiac Technology
The department plays a vital role in preparing skilled cardiac technologists who work alongside cardiologists and healthcare professionals to deliver quality cardiac care using advanced diagnostic and therapeutic technologies.
The department is committed to developing competent professionals with strong theoretical knowledge, practical expertise, and ethical values. It provides comprehensive training in non-invasive and invasive cardiac diagnostic procedures, cardiac monitoring, patient care, and emergency cardiovascular support. The curriculum integrates classroom instruction, simulation-based learning, laboratory practice, and extensive clinical exposure to ensure students acquire the knowledge and skills required in modern cardiac healthcare.
Students receive hands-on training in electrocardiography (ECG), echocardiography, treadmill testing (TMT), Holter monitoring, cardiac catheterization laboratories, intensive cardiac care units (ICCU), and emergency cardiac services. The department emphasizes patient safety, evidence-based practice, clinical decision-making, teamwork, and compassionate care, enabling graduates to meet the growing demands of the healthcare industry.
With the guidance of experienced faculty and clinical experts, the department nurtures technical competence, professional ethics, communication skills, leadership qualities, and lifelong learning among students.
Objectives of the Department
The Department of Cardiac Technology aims to:
- Develop comprehensive knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, diseases, and diagnostic procedures.
- Equip students with technical skills in performing electrocardiography (ECG), echocardiography, treadmill testing (TMT), Holter monitoring, and other non-invasive cardiac investigations.
- Enhance clinical competency in assisting cardiologists during invasive procedures such as cardiac catheterization, angiography, angioplasty, and pacemaker implantation.
- Promote evidence-based practice, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities in cardiovascular diagnosis and patient management.
- Foster professional ethics, effective communication, teamwork, and patient-centered care in multidisciplinary healthcare settings.
Departmental Activities
- The department observes important health awareness days such as World Heart Day, World Hypertension Day, World Health Day, and World No Tobacco Day by organizing health awareness campaigns, screening programs, exhibitions, seminars, and community outreach activities to promote cardiovascular health.
- Regular guest lectures, Continuing Education Programmes (CNE), workshops, and seminars are conducted to update students and faculty on recent advancements in cardiac diagnostics, interventional cardiology, and cardiovascular technology.
- Students undergo comprehensive clinical training in reputed multispecialty hospitals, cardiac care centers, catheterization laboratories (Cath Labs), intensive cardiac care units (ICCU), echocardiography laboratories, and emergency departments to gain practical exposure to real-time patient care.
- Hands-on training sessions and workshops on Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), electrocardiography (ECG), echocardiography, and emergency cardiac care are organized regularly to strengthen students' technical and clinical skills.
- The department encourages students to participate in scientific conferences, research projects, paper presentations, poster competitions, and continuing professional development activities to enhance academic excellence and research aptitude.
