The Department of Chemical Engineering organised an Alumni guest lecture titled “Introduction to Detail Engineering and Process control” on 21.02.2026 at 2.00pm-4.00pm.The program commenced with a welcome address delivered by Ms. K. Nithiya, Final Year Chemical Engineering, who warmly welcomed the Chief Guest, faculty members, and fellow students. In her address, she emphasized the importance of alumni interactions in guiding students toward understanding industrial expectations and professional growth. The Chief Guest introduction was delivered by Ms. D.K.Thirumalasakthi, II Year Chemical Engineering, The chief guest Mr.J.Vignesh Executive Engineering – Process simulation, YOKOGAWA INDIA LIMITED, Bangalore. Who share his professional journey, industry experience, and notable contributions in the field of chemical process industries, which makes students inspire with insights into career development and practical exposure.
The technical session focused on the fundamentals of Detail Engineering, including preparation of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), equipment layout, process flow diagrams, instrumentation selection, and safety considerations. The speaker explained how detail engineering transforms conceptual and basic engineering designs into executable project plans in industrial settings. The session further covered Process Control Systems, discussing control strategies such as ON–OFF, Proportional (P), Proportional–Integral (PI), Proportional–Derivative (PD), and Proportional–Integral–Derivative (PID) controllers. The guest elaborated on the control of process variables such as temperature, pressure, flow, and level, supported by real-time industrial examples. Special emphasis was given to controller tuning, system stability, and the significance of automation in modern process industries.
The lecture was highly interactive, with students actively engaging in discussions and clarifying their doubts regarding industrial practices, project execution, and career opportunities in detail engineering and automation sectors. The session provided valuable exposure to practical challenges and solutions encountered in real-world projects. The program witnessed enthusiastic participation.
from chemical engineering students and faculty members. The interaction fostered a strong academic–industry connection and motivated students to enhance their technical competencies.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Karthick.P, III Year Chemical Engineering, who expressed sincere gratitude to the Chief Guest for sharing valuable knowledge and industry experience. The convener Dr.P.Jayakaran, Head of the Department, Chemical Engineering, Alumni association Co-Ordinator Mr.S.Sathish, and the faculty members of chemical department, students were attended the session.
Overall, the alumni guest lecture was highly beneficial, enriching students’ understanding of detail engineering and process control while encouraging continuous learning and professional development.
