World Pharmacists Day is celebrated globally on September 25th every year to raise awareness about the role of pharmacists in improving health. Today (25/9/2024), we celebrated World Pharmacists Day at our institution to acknowledge the vital contributions of pharmacists to global health.

The event began with Dr. A. Bharath Kumar delivering the keynote address, where he discussed the significance of World Pharmacists Day. He elaborated on this year’s theme, “Pharmacists: Meeting global health needs,” emphasizing that pharmacists are integral members of healthcare systems, playing a crucial role in addressing health needs. They not only ensure access to essential medicines and their optimal use but also contribute significantly to patient care and public health.

Dr. R. Ananthakumar, Head of the Department of Pharmaceutics, highlighted the roles and responsibilities of pharmacists in the community. He stressed that pharmacists must adhere to professional ethics in their practice. He also emphasized that pharmacists should actively participate in community services, such as patient counseling, raising awareness about disease prevention and management, conducting health screenings, educating patients to improve health literacy, supporting public health campaigns, and participating in research and the development of new medicines and prescribing guidelines to promote better health outcomes.

Mr. A. M. Tharun, a second-year B.Pharm student, delivered a speech on World Pharmacists Day. Following this, students and faculty members collectively took the Pharmacist’s Oath, reaffirming their commitment to society and the healthcare system. The program concluded with a vote of thanks and the national anthem.
