About the Department
The Department of Physical Education in Paavai Engineering College was established in the year 2001.
At Paavai, Physical Education is deemed a part of academic curriculum offering continuous training to develop and maintain the human body physically fit. Remembering the slogans ‘Health is Wealth’ and ‘Sound mind in Sound body’ the Physical Education Department strives to sharpen the overall cognitive abilities and motor skills through sports, athletics, different exercises and various outdoor and indoor games.
There are many sports grounds and courts separately for all sport and games. Arjun Sports Maidan has enviable facilities on a par with international standards. Kalpana Chawla open ground is there for cricket, hockey, football, handball, kho-kho etc,. A mega Paavai indoor stadium provides facilities to play all indoor games like Table Tennis, Shuttle, Chess etc., Sachin Tower Gym is an excellent centre for students and staff to maintain their physical fitness.
Paavai offers free boarding and lodging for a good number of sports students and the tuition fee is also waived.
The unique feature of Paavai Physical Education Department is that it has established it’s First position in all levels such as Anna University level, All India Inter University level, National level and State level in Sports and games.
Further, Paavai feels proud that its sports students have got appointments in various departments like Railways, Income Tax, Postal, Army, Police etc.,
Under the guidance of specialized and experienced SDAT coaches for all the games, the players are given exposure to the tournaments at State, South Indian and National Level Competitions.
Every year, our Paavai Engineering College have proved their mettle with a mark of excellence in the conducting various games. The list of conducted games are as follows

N.Santhanaraja, The Physical Education department is led by Prof.N.Santhanaraja. He has completed his under graduation in Commerce in the year 1999 from the Kandaswamy Kandar College, Velur. In the year 2001, he obtained his post graduation degree in Physical Education Annamalai University. For the past 20 years and has guided many students to achieve in All India Level, National Level & State Level Tournaments. He has always motivated the students to get placed in various Government jobs with continuous encourage, monitoring and counseling.

He has completed his under graduation in Physical Education from the Annamalai University in the year 2006. He obtained his post graduation degree in Physical Education Annamalai University in the year 2008. He obtained his Master of Philosophy in Tamil Nadu Physical Education Sports University in the year 2009 For the past 8 years and has guided many students to achieve in All India Level, National Level & State Level Tournaments. He has always motivated the students to get placed in various Government jobs with continuous encourage, monitoring and counseling.
Mr. M.Elavarasan,
Yoga Coach
Mr.M.Elavarasan has completed his Diploma in Yoga from the Annamalai University in the year 2015. He obtained his under graduation degree in Yoga from Tamilnadu Physical Education and Sports University in the year 2018. He obtained his NSNIS Certificate Course in Sports Coaching from Sports Authority of India in the year 2018. He obtained his post graduation in Yoga Therapy from Tamilnadu Physical Education and Sports University in the year 2020. He is currently serving as a yoga trainer at Paavai Engineering College. He has received Yoga Sironmani award from Sivanandha Ashram in the year 2018. He is the recipient of 14 National, 2 International medals and certificates.
Mrs. Sathiya V
Physical Directress
She has completed his under graduation in Physical Education from the Tamilnadu Physical Education and Sports University in the year 2011. She obtained his post graduation degree in Physical Education Tamilnadu Physical Education and Sports University in the year 2014.
Facilities
Excellent Sports & games facilities with Basket ball ground, Cricket ground, Foot ball ground, Hockey, Kabaddi ground, Kho Kho court, Volley Ball Court, Badminton, Table Tennis, and Multi-gymnasium are made available to the students so as to enable them to have a sound physique. Yogic values are being taught by qualified and eminent teachers.

Sports 2021 - 2022
Khelo India University Games – 2021, our student Mr.K.Vignesh of I MCA of Paavai Engineering College participated and We are happy to announce that Mr.K.Vignesh of I MCA of Paavai Engineering College has won the Gold medal in the event, Weight lifting at Khelo University Games 2021, which was conducted by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India from 24/04/2022 to 03/05/2022 in Jain University, Bangalore. There were 180 University students participated in the Khelo India University Games 2021. Mr.K.Vignesh, I MCA of PEC representing Anna University Chennai has won in the category of 109KG, 124KG in snatch and in 154KG lifted in clean and Jerk. Totally he lifted 278KG.

Paavai Engineering College is performing extraordinarily well in the Anna University Zone & Inter-Zonal Tournaments. We feel proud to say that among all the 535 Engineering Colleges in Tamil Nadu, our Paavai Engineering College has got the overall I place in the Anna University Inter Zone Level Sports and Games consecutively for 6th year got Champion of Champion award and fantastic performance of men and women teams, our college got 690 points in this academic year.
We are happy to inform that from our Institutions, 50 students have participated in All India Inter University Tournament, 21 students have participated in National Level Tournaments, 34 students have participated in South Zone Tournament, 71 students have represented Anna University teams in various Sports & Games & 38 Students have participated in Tamilnadu State Level Chief Minister Trophy in various sports & games.

Paavai Engineering College is performing extraordinarily well in the Anna University Zone & Inter-Zonal Tournaments. We feel proud to say that among all the 552 Engineering Colleges in Tamil Nadu, our Paavai Engineering College has got the overall I place in the Anna University Inter Zone Level Sports and Games consecutively for 5th year got Champion of Champion award and fantastic performance of men and women teams. In the previous year, our college got 710 points and this year it has been increased to 780 points.
We are extremely happy to announce that, D. Ramya of I – MBA from our Paavai Engineering College student got government job at South Central Railways.
We are happy to inform that from our Institutions, 50 students have participated in All India Inter University Tournament, 21 students have participated in National Level Tournaments, 34 students have participated in South Zone Tournament, 71 students have represented Anna University teams in various Sports & Games & 38 Students have participated in Tamilnadu State Level Chief Minister Trophy in various sports & games.

Paavai Engineering College has secured many prizes in the National & State Level Tournaments. The achievements are as follows:
- Badminton team won the titles like KCT Trophy, Kongu Trophy & Loyola Trophy,
- Ball Badminton team won the titles like KCT, SCOPE, “C” Grade Open State, Periyar Maniammai Open Tournament & SRM All India Open Ball Badminton Tournament.
- Our Weight Lifting, Power Lifting & Best physique team has won Overall Champions in various tournaments like Junior State, Senior State, Junior National, Senior Nationals, KCT & All India Open tournaments.
- Handball Men team won the tournaments like KCT, SCOPE, Senior Open State, PSG Tech & State Level Nazareth Alumni trophy.
- Handball Women team has secured second place in Senior State Level Tournament held at Coimbatore & Five students were selected for Tamilnadu Team.
- Hockey Men team won the tournaments like KCT, Kongu Alumni Trophy, M.Kumarasamy Alumni Trophy & SDAT League Tournament and got second place.
- 15 Students from our Hockey Women Team has represented in Senior National Tournament & secured second place.
- Our Hockey Women team Secured Runners in Tamilnadu SDAT Inter University tournament held at SRM University.
- Our College team got first place in many Games & Sports in District Level Chief Minister Trophy and our team got 3 Lakhs as cash prize.
- Kho – Kho team won KCT Tournament held at Coimbatore.
- Yoga team won 14 Gold, 9 Silver & 17 Bronze Medals in various Yoga Championship like South India, National Rural Games, State Games & KCT Yoga Championship.
- 4 students from our Kho – Kho women team has been selected to participate the Pro Kho-Kho League.

Paavai Engineering College is performing extraordinarily well in the Anna University Inter-Zone Level sports and games. We feel proud to say that among all the 572 Engineering Colleges in Tamil Nadu, our Paavai Engineering College has got the overall I place in the Anna University Inter Zone Level Sports and Games consecutively for 4 years by the wonderful and fantastic performance of men and women teams. In the previous year, our college got 640 points and this year it has been increased to 710 points.
Individual Achievements:

- Maneesh of IV-MCT won Silver Medal in RGFI Nationals Judo tournament held at Adhiyaman Engineering College, Hosur.
- Sakthivel of III – Aero won Gold Medal in Senior State Power Lifting tournament held at Tirunelveli.
- Nivash Siddharthan of IV – Mech won Bronze Medal in Senior State Power Lifting tournament held at Tirunelveli.
- Bharathi of IV – ECE won Gold Medal in Junior State Power Lifting tournament held at Tiruvallur.

- Vinothini of IV year CSE & A.Madhu Shalini of III year ECE have got Third Place in 63rd Senior National Ball Badminton tournament held at Haryana.
- Kannika of III year ECE, D.Niranjana of III year ECE & T.Gowsalya of I year ECE have got First Place in Junior National Ball Badminton tournament held at Karnataka.
- Elavarasan of IV-year EEE won Champion of Champion and Gold Medal in RGFI Nationals held at Adhiyaman College of Eng. Hosur & State Level Yogasana Championship held at Namakkal.
- Rudra of IV year MECH won the Champion of Champion and Gold Medal in State Level Yoga Championship held at Namakkal and also he represent All India Inter University yoga championship held at Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra.

- Handball team won the tournaments like KCT, SCOPE & PSG Tech.
- Hockey team won the tournaments like KCT, Kongu Alumni Trophy, Chief Minister Trophy.
- Basketball team won the tournaments like Chief Minister Trophy, KCT, ALUVA-Kerala, NITK-Mangalore & State Level Open Tournament held at Virudhunagar.
- Kho – Kho team won KCT tournament held at Coimbatore.
- Judo team won 5 Gold, 7 Silver & 3 Bronze Medals in RGFI, Junior & Senior State tournaments.
- Boxing team won 2 Gold & 3 Silver Junior State tournaments.
- Yoga team won 28 Gold, 17 Silver & 21 Bronze Medals in various Yoga Championship like South India, National Rural Games, State Games & KCT Yoga Championship.
