Ragging means display of noisy, disorderly conduct, doing any act which causes or is likely to cause physical or physiological harm or raise apprehension or fear or shame or embarrassment to a student in any educational institution. Thus ragging includes
- i) Teasing, abusing or playing practical jokes on, or causing hurt to a student (OR)
- ii) Asking the students to do any act or perform something which a student will not carry out in the ordinary course, willingly
Penalty for Ragging:
Whoever directly or indirectly commits, participates in, abets or propagates “Ragging” within or outside any Educational Institution, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years and shall also be liable to fine which may extend to ten thousand rupees.
Dismissal of Students:
Any student convicted of an offence under section 4 shall also be dismissed from the Educational Institution and such student shall not be admitted in any other Educational Institution.
Suspension of Students :
Without prejudice to the foregoing provisions, whenever any student complaints of ragging to Head of an Educational Institution, or to any other person responsible for the management of the Educational Institution, shall enquire into the same immediately and if found true, shall suspend the student, who has committed the offence, from the Educational Institution. The decision of the Head of the Educational Institution or the person responsible for the management of the Educational Institution, whether any student has indulged in ragging under sub-section (1), shall be final. Hence students, particularly the Seniors, are requested to refrain from any such criminal act. Juniors are requested to report about any ragging activity to the officials immediately without any fear.

Student’s Grievance Redressal Committee

Paavai Engineering College has constituted a Students Grievance Redressal Committee headed by the Principal as Chairman and senior heads of the departments. The committee meets at regular intervals to resolve the complaints registered by the students.
The functions of the Committee are to look into the complaints registered by any student, and judge its merit. The Grievance Redressal Committee is also empowered to look into matters of harassment. Anyone with a genuine grievance may approach the Grievance Redressal Committee members in person. Incase the person is unwilling to appear in self, grievances may be sent in writing.
A Grievance Redressal Committee has been constituted for the set right the problems reported by the Students of the College and to build cordial Student-Student relationship and Student teacher relationship etc.
The objective of the Grievance Redressal Committee is to build up a receptive and liable approach among all the stakeholders to facilitate a healthy learning ambiance in the organization.
Encouraging the Students to put across their grievances freely and honestly, without panic of being ill-treated. Suggestion boxes are kept in prominent places to help the students.
The Committee deals with Grievances received in writing from the students about any of the issues related to academic matters, conditions of health and hygiene, canteen, bus, etc..
The Committee officially meets to review all cases, prepares reports about the number of cases received, attended and pending cases, if any, which require direction and guidance from the higher authorities.
Procedure:-
The students may feel free to put up a grievance in writing and drop it in boxes placed in the college. The committee will act upon those cases which have been forwarded along with the necessary documents.

UGC Regulations
Women Welfare Committee
Paavai Engineering College has established a women welfare committee to empower girl students, to address all issues related to women and to make the college campus a safe place for female students and faculty members. The main objective of the committee is to motivate, empower women and secure feminine gender. It aims to prevent sexual harassment and to promote general well-being of female students, teaching and non-teaching women staff of the college.
In order to maintain the safety and security of the girls and women, a cell has been constituted for redressal of grievances which ensures equality and protection for women against all forms of harassment and problems faced. During last few years, the difficulties of the girls are settled amicably. Women who have complaints of violation of their rights and non-implementation of their protective measures can directly approach the committee for redressal.
The team organizes health awareness program, solves issues and complaints related to women and counsel them. It works for women welfare, conducts women’s day program, motivates and orient the girl student to identify their strengths, develops multidisciplinary approach for the overall personality development. It also organizes seminars, workshops related to women empowerment and guide women of welfare laws. Sessions by women achievers of different fields are organized to motivate the girl students.

Academic audit can be understood as a scientific and systematic method of reviewing the quality of academic process in the institution.it is related with the quality assurance and enhancing the quality of academic activities in college. The main aim of conducting academic audit is to assess the academic performance on both individual faculty and the whole department. This practice develops accountability of the individual members and the department as a whole with regard to their academic performance by conducting academic audit, the strength and weakness of the department can be assessed. The weakness of the department can be rectified by concentrating on constant, consistent incremental growth of the department.

Paavai Engineering College is dedicated to provide reliable, safe and secured academic environment to students and working ambience to all female staff members. As per the guidelines of Supreme Court, UGC, Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal) Act, 2013, an Internal Complaints Committee (Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell) has been established by the College.
Objectives

- To promote awareness about sexual harassment through educational initiatives that encourages and fosters a dignified and safe environment for women on campus.

Prevention of Sexual Harassment – Redressal Mechanism
Procedure for logging in complaint: Complaints should be submitted either through email or by post or in person as soon as possible after an incident has occurred, preferably in writing with his or her details of name, designation, contact number and address. The complaint should provide the following information:
- The name, department and position of the person allegedly committing harassment.
- A description of the incident(s), including the date(s), location(s) and the presence of any witnesses.
- The names of other individuals who might have been subject to the same or similar harassment.
All complaints and investigations are treated confidentially to the extent possible and information is disclosed strictly on a need-to-know basis. Procedure for resolving the issue: 1. On receiving the complaint by the Women Welfare Committee (WWC), the Chair person of WWC will initiate an enquiry by forming a committee with the members along with the approval of the Principal. The committee will meet and interview the complaint, the respondent and any witnesses to determine whether the alleged conduct occurred. 2. Upon conclusion of an investigation, the Chairperson will submit a written report of the committee findings to the Principal. The committee will recommend appropriate disciplinary action. The appropriate action will depend on the severity, frequency and pervasiveness of the conduct, the quality of the evidence. Finally, recommendations submitted will be implemented by the Principal.

The library is an integral part of the institute’s academic and research work .As an informatics center of the institute, library provides an enjoyable learning experience with optimum ambience for study and learning on all working days.it provides information/knowledge resources through a carefully developed and balanced collection of books and journals. Since the library has to cater to the needs of variety of clients such as faculty, research scholars, postgraduates, and under graduates students institute administrators as well as specialists, and non-teaching institute staff a wide range of subject fields are to be represented in our books stock with prime thrust for meeting the needs of students and faculty sections of the library users, formation of policies, rules& regulations and implementing the library policies in a judicious manner an infrastructure is needed for the library. Objectives Of Library Committee
- To develop collection of reading material useful for various courses.
- To provide full information support to the teaching-learning process in the college
- To provide various library services and facilities to the readers.

Duties and functions of library committee
- To frame general rules for the management of the library
- To prepare the annual budget estimates of the library
- To allocate funds, from the sanctioned annual budget of the library, for the purchase of books, journals and periodicals.
- To arrange for the stock taking of the library
- To advise the librarian regarding general library development.
Library committee arranges a student forum to create awareness among the students. Some aims of students are as follows.
Many students are not aware or do not know what types of research of learning skills classes and sessional are available. These session are listed under the library classes booking system on the students portal
The demand for longer library opening hours is constantly brought by the students. The library regularly reviews opening hours to meet user’s needs.
Rules and Regulations
Library committee also makes some library rules for the students. some general rules are as follows
- Identity card is compulsory for all enrolled students for availing of library facilities.
- Identify card will be issued by the librarian on presentation of admission receipt and photograph.
- Misbehavior and misuse of identity card is an offence and the student responsible for the same is liable for disciplinary action.
- Students should maintain silence and mobiles are not allowed inside the library
- In case of any grievances the users should contact to librarian or principal
- No admission is permitted in study room without identity card
- Students can borrow textbooks, on their identity card in the study room
- Books/study material issued in the study room will have to return before leaving the study room.
- Conversation, making noise, sleeping, resting legs on chairs and tables, smoking etc.is strictly prohibited in the library.
- Members entering the library /reading rooms are required to leave all personal belongings like umbrella, bags, briefcases, books, coats, etc. inside the locker room placed at the entrance.
- No outside/personal books are allowed inside the library.
- The librarian may recall any book /journal any time if required
- Personal belongings should not be left unattended. The library staffs are not responsible for any loss or damage.
- Switch off your mobile while entering the library.
- Students should follow the dress code of the college while visiting library
- Misconduct or infringing the library rules is liable for disciplinary action
- To obtain NO DUES certificate, members should return all books journals borrowed pay overdue charges if any and surrender the library cards.

Office of the Controller of Examinations
The office of “The Controller of Examinations” was instituted in the month of October 2015 on the conferment of Autonomous status to the college. The office of the Controller of Examinations and the examination cell is working under a common umbrella to hold the examination activities of the college under Autonomous Scheme. The office frames its roles and responsibilities in such a way that the continuous learning processes of the students are assessed appropriately through standard examination process and methods with confidentiality. In addition to the preparation and conduction of Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) test and End Semester Examinations and its publication of results for all the UG, PG and Ph.D Programme(s), the other roles and responsibilities of the office of the Controller of Examinations are
- Collection and maintenance of student bio data from the students.
- Registration of programme & open electives from the students for the End Semester Examinations.
- Preparation of timetable, hall plan, seating arrangement and invigilator duty list for the Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) test.
- Collection of question papers from the departments, printing and disseminating for the Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) test.
- Conduction of CIA test for the students of various UG/PG Programmes.
- Entry of CIA details such as attendance, CIA test marks, assignment marks and Innovative practices marks in the COE examination portal.
- Uploading the period wise assessment details in the student’s login of the college website and provide the assessment report to the departments.
- Preparation of Particulars of Attendance details as per Proforma I to VI.
- Collection of practical examination schedule from the departments.
- Appointment of internal and external examiners for practical examinations.
- Preparation of panel of examiners from various other colleges and Universities.

Student Counsellor
The Student Counselling Committee aims to address day-to-day concerns related to academics and routine activities among students. Counselling is a process designed to promote students’ personal well-being by offering support and guidance through trained counsellors, thereby contributing to a healthy mind and body.
To help students navigate emotional and psychological challenges, the college has established a Counselling Committee on campus. This initiative is led by a trained team of faculty members serving as counsellors.
The committee encourages students to gain a better understanding of themselves and the issues they face. It offers guidance to help them overcome various challenges whether personal, emotional, social, familial, peer-related or academic. Counselling may be provided individually or in groups, and it focuses on helping students achieve academic success, social and personal growth, career development, and the enhancement of interpersonal and communication skills.
The overall goal of counselling is to encourage positive behavioural changes, improve the student’s ability to form and maintain healthy social relationships, support sound decision-making, and help students realize their potential while effectively coping with the challenges they face.

Role & Responsibilities
- Provide individual counselling sessions to help students resolve personal issues.

- Conduct seminars for students on mental health, addiction, and related issues.
- Inform parents in cases of significant psychological or behavioural concerns exhibited by the student.
- Encourage students to regularly meet with the Counselling Committee to share suggestions and grievances.
- Students may explain their problems to the Counselling Committee as and when needed.
- The committee interacts with students to understand the nature of their concerns.
- Any grievance identified is recorded in a register and appropriately addressed.
- The Student Counselling Committee will review each grievance and recommend suitable actions to be taken at the institutional level for resolution.
