About the Department

Civil Engineering is one of the major disciplines in the Engineering profession and its principles are involved in the design, development, construction and maintenance of structures. The Department of Civil Engineering has been established in the year 2005 and M.E Structural Engineering in the year 2012. The departments have well established laboratories supplementing the academic needs of the students with well qualified faculty members in different areas of specialization .The academic activities of the Department emphasize deep understanding of fundamental principles & development of creative ability to handle the challenges of Civil Engineering. In addition to academic activities, the Department involves in offering consultancy services to the industry and society.

Prof.K. Sharmiladevi, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Civil Engineering, Paavai Engineering College, Pachal, Namakkal, Tamilnadu.

Prof.K. Sharmiladevi has completed her Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering in the year 2005 from Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Coimbatore. She did her M.E. (Construction Engineering & Management) in the year 2008 from College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University, and Chennai. Currently she is pursuing her doctoral Degree at Anna University, Chennai in the proposed title “Structural Behaviour of Hybrid Fibre Reinforced Self Compacting Concrete using foundry sand”.

During her Post graduation, she has contributed her work for the” Rescheduling of Dubai Mall Entertainment Building Roof erection” constructed by Eversendai Construction Private Ltd, Chennai. After her post-graduation, she got campus placement as Senior Design Engineer in Roads & Runway Sector at Larsen& Toubro (L&T) ECC division, Headquarters, Chennai. In L&T, she worked for standardization of structures, design of formwork and preparation of Prefabrication unit drawings. She had actively contributed in many Infrastructure development projects like AVMRP, HSRDC in Gujarat State Road Development Corporation. She also worked as an ISO audit Coordinator in Roads & Runways Sector. She has 7 years of Experience in Design & Project Management field in the Construction Sector. She is good at leadership & management skills.

Prof.K. Sharmiladevi is having enough Teaching and Industrial Experience and she has published many research articles in Journals of National & International publications. She is the Life Member of professional Bodies like Institution of Engineers (India), & IEANG (International Association of Engineers).

Prof.K.Sharmiladevi mentors students and staff in research and innovation activities. Notably, during the MSME 2.0 HACKATHON, her mentored students received project grants of 13.35 lakhs for their solid waste management project. She ensures her students gain practical experience by arranging internships at the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) every year. Additionally, she encourages faculty and students to engage in consultancy work, including testing construction materials, surveying, and design. Her passion for teaching drives her commitment to the betterment of the student community.

The department is having spacious laboratories, well equipped facilities for the students to perform the necessary experiments as per the curriculum and even beyond the curriculum.

Maintenance and overall ambiance:

  • Overall ambience of laboratory is good.
  • All laboratories have sufficient natural light, good ventilation with tubes and fan arrangement.
  • Laboratory plans are prepared for each laboratory course, these plans include number of experiments as prescribed in the curriculum.
  • Laboratory manuals are prepared for all the experiments in the plan and are provided to the students at the time of practical hours.
  • Continuous assessment system is also implemented for assessment of laboratory work.
  • The assessment is done on the basis of timely submission of laboratory sheets, understanding of the experiment through oral questions and participation in performing the experiment.
  • As per the requirement minor repair works are carried out by the lab assistant.
  • Maintenance of computers is taken care by the help of system administrator of our institute itself.
  • Major repair works are outsourced by following the procedure of the institute.
  • All laboratories are equipped with modern equipment to meet the requirement of the curriculum.
  • Issues are immediately resolved.
  • User register is maintained in every laboratory.
  • Safety equipment are inspected and frequently recharged.
