
World Hypertension Day is aimed at raising attention on the importance of a better hypertension control. Its purpose is to communicate to the public the importance of hypertension and its serious medical complications, and to provide information on its prevention, detection, and management.
The programme aimed to remind the subjects who have their blood pressure measured accurately and to maintain control over it to ensure a longer, healthier life.
The raising blood pressure is the biggest single contributing risk factor to altered global health and being one of the world’s leading risk factors for death, stroke, and disability. The number of people living with hypertension was doubled from previous years. People don’t have awareness on Hypertension screening due to modified life style practice.
As per The Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R Medical University, Chennai Honourable Vice Chancellor instructions and advice blood pressure screening minimizes the hypertension complications in the community. We have created awareness to the public and all over the world we and initiated this awareness programme in public. We are the Paramedical team and our responsibility to monitor the blood pressure in the public and control the blood pressure health complications among themselves.
We have conducted Awareness programme on Hypertension prevention and management, blood pressure screening in our college campus on 11/06/2024 as part of celebrating world Hypertension day. Our D.Pharm, B.Pharm, Pharm.D, M.Pharm students were actively participated in the programme. 640 subjects we have screened blood pressure in our college, Paavai Engineering college students, teaching and non-teaching faculty members. We have conducted hypertension screening camp in Nearby Puduchatram villages.
Principal, Dr.R.Sivakumar shared valuable insights into hypertension, its risk factors, and management strategies for a healthy lifestyle in the community.
He stated that the elevated blood pressure leads to stroke, heart attack, heart failure, kidney damage and many other health problems. In particular, high systolic blood pressure was the single most important risk factor for early death worldwide, leading to an estimated 10.8 million avoidable deaths every year, and a burden of 235 million years of life lost or lived with a disability annually. High BP has enormous economic costs for patients and their families, health systems and national economies.
The event concluded successfully with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr.A.Bharath Kumar, M.Pharm., Ph.D., Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice. The Awareness programme was concluded with National anthem.
