Preface

The Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, Paavai Engineering College (Autonomous), Namakkal, successfully organized a one-day National Conference on Tackling Tomorrow’s Threats: Emerging Infectious Diseases, Drug Development, and Global Health Innovations on March 25, 2025. The conference aimed to bring together distinguished researchers, academicians, industry experts, and students to discuss recent advancements in infectious disease management, novel drug discovery strategies, and global health innovations.

Inaugural Session

The conference commenced with the invocation and lighting of the Kuthuvilaku, signifying the auspicious beginning of the event.

  • Welcome Address: Dr. R. PraveenCumar, Head, Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, Paavai Engineering College, warmly welcomed the distinguished guests, participants, and delegates.
  • Presidential Address: The event was presided over by Shri. CA. N. V. Natarajan, Chairman, Paavai Educational Institutions, who emphasized the significance of pharmaceutical advancements in tackling emerging infectious diseases.
  • Keynote Address: Delivered by Dr. Arumugam Muruganandam, Managing Director & Chief Scientific Officer, Affigenix Biosolutions Pvt Ltd, Bangalore, Karnataka. The keynote address by Dr. Arumugam Muruganandam provided critical insights into the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and its severe consequences for public health. The session highlighted the overuse and misuse of antibiotics as the primary drivers of AMR and stressed the need for urgent interventions in medical practice, pharmaceutical regulations, and public awareness. Dr. Muruganandam’s keynote address was highly impactful, offering deep insights into the causes, consequences, and preventive strategies for AMR. The session provided a valuable learning experience, inspiring healthcare professionals, researchers, and students to advocate for responsible antibiotic use and stricter regulations.

Key Points include antibiotic overuse and its impact, unregulated sale of antibiotics, public health consequences of AMR and influence of food habits on AMR.

  • Keynote Address: Delivered by Dr. Indranil Chattopadhyay, Department of Biotechnology, Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur. The keynote address by Dr. Indranil Chattopadhyay provided an in-depth analysis of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and its growing threat to global health. He emphasized the urgent need for a multi-dimensional approach to tackle AMR, including new drug discovery, regulatory enforcement, alternative therapies, and dietary interventions.

Key points include understanding antimicrobial resistance (AMR), the role of drug development in combating AMR, the impact of food habits on AMR, the need for stronger regulatory frameworks, a multi-disciplinary approach to tackling AMR.

  • Felicitation: Smt. Mangai Natarajan, Correspondent, Paavai Group of Institutions, expressed gratitude to the esteemed speakers for their valuable contributions.

Technical Sessions and Paper Presentations

Following the inauguration, the conference featured engaging technical sessions, research paper presentations, and poster presentations.

  • Technical Session 1 (10:30 AM – 11:30 AM): Speaker: Dr. Indranil Chattopadhyay
    Topic: Microbial Allies: Revolutionizing Oral Health with Targeted Therapeutics
  • Paper Presentation Session (11:30 AM – 12:45 PM): Researchers and students from various institutions presented their findings on topics related to infectious diseases, drug resistance, biomarker development, and therapeutic innovations.
  • Poster Presentation (1:30 PM – 2:30 PM): Venue: Tata Hall & Bright Hall
    Posters showcased cutting-edge research in Microbiology, Nanotechnology, and Biotechnology, focusing on global health challenges and pharmaceutical advancements.
  • Technical Session 2 (2:30 PM – 4:00 PM): Speaker: Dr. Arumugam Muruganandam
    Topic: From Bench to Bedside: The Antibody Discovery Journey Unveiled

Valedictory Function (4:00 PM – 4:40 PM)

The conference concluded with a valedictory session, where certificates were distributed to prize winners, participants, presenters, and delegates. The vote of thanks was delivered by the student Coordinator Ms. R. Swetha, acknowledging the contributions of the Management, chief guests, participants, organizing committee, faculty members, students and others. The event ended with the National Anthem.

Conclusion

To sum up, we have received a total of 235 registrations, out of which 112 external and 123 internal registrations. Among the external registrations, a total of 54 online and 44 offline presentations have been scheduled. We have registrations from 7 Universities, 19 colleges, 1 Research Institute and 1 Industry. We have delegates from Annamalai University Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Anna University, BIT Campus, The Gandhigram Rural Institute (Deemed to Be University), Chettinad Academy of Research and Education Deemed to be University, Annamalai University, Bharath University, Vinayaka Mission University, Sathyabama University.

We have delegates from Sahrdaya College of Engineering and Technology, Kerala, Nandha Engineering College (Autonomous), Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Engineering College, Vivekananda College of engineering for women, Kamaraj College of Engineering and Technology, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Engineering and Technology, Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Shree Venkateshwara Hi Tech engineering college, St. Joseph’s College of Engineering, P.S.R Engineering College, Sivakasi, Mahendra Engineering college, Paavai college of Pharmacy and Research, Gnanamani college of Technology, Adhiyamaan college of Engineering, Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research, K S Rangasamy college of technology, Paavai college of Nursing and Research, Pavai Arts and Science college for women, RVS Siddha Medical College and Hospital, Coimbatore. We have delegates from Orbion Pharmaceutical industry.

The National Conference on Tackling Tomorrow’s Threats provided a fruitful platform for knowledge exchange, networking, and academic discussions.
